Balance
1. For my first balance photo, I didn't really know what to look for, so I just found a nice balance of color and line. For my second photo, I looked for something with radial symmetry and used the shell so that the photo would have a more balanced appearance.
2. I used close-up mode so that I could capture the details of the shell. It made the center very sharp and everything around it got blurrier, which I like because it draws the eye to the center and then out.
3. My first photo used very geometric shapes, and my second photo uses organic shapes. Because of this, the first photo could've looked more balanced because all of the bricks are uniform, but the angle I took each photo at affected the balance.
Pattern
1. For my first pattern photo, I was looking for something that simply repeated many times, so I used a row of lockers. For my second photo, I used something that had a natural pattern, but also had a variety of textures so that the repetition was not boring.
2. I used close-up mode so that the details, cracks, and stripes on the shell would be visible. It brought a lot of attention to the interesting texture while blurring out the boring parts.
3. Both photos have a neutral color palette, which could be improved because color patterns can be more interesting. The first photo also has a lot of glare and reflection from the light, which is distracting, while the second photo does not.
Contrast
1. In my first photo, I was looking for anything that contrasted, so I ended up contrasting two different textures. In my second photo, I wanted to find things that contrasted, but also went well together, so I used two of the same objects in contrasting colors.
2. I used auto mode because I had two subjects and I didn't want the eye to be more drawn to one than the other. This caused the subjects to slightly stand out from the background without making the background too blurry.
3. The first photo has a variety of contrast: color, texture, font, etc. while the second photo only contrast color, so it is easier to recognize. The first photo's background also stands out more than the background of the second photo.
